Consulate General

The Consulate General of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Toronto commenced operations on 4 June 2001, following a decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Sri Lanka to establish a diplomatic presence in the Greater Toronto Area considering the significant Sri Lankan diaspora. The Post was created with the objective of providing efficient and accessible services to Sri Lankan nationals while strengthening engagement between Sri Lanka and Canada.

The Consulate General is dedicated to advancing bilateral relations and fostering cooperation across a broad spectrum of areas, including Consular, economic, trade, investment, educational, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Consulate General provides a wide range of consular services to Sri Lankan citizens, including birth and citizenship-related services, issuance of Sri Lanka Passports, document attestation, and assistance on other various consular matters. It also facilitates visa services for Canadian and other foreign nationals travelling to Sri Lanka.

Beyond its consular responsibilities, the Consulate General actively promotes Sri Lanka’s tourism, trade, investment, educational, and cultural interests, while fostering closer collaboration among institutions, businesses, and communities in both Sri Lanka and Canada. Through these efforts, the Consulate General serves as an important bridge in strengthening the longstanding friendship and mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries.
